When you have decided to stop, willpower alone is a weak defence against an app that is one tap away. Putting real barriers between you and betting apps makes stopping far more achievable. Here is how.
Remove the apps and accounts
Uninstall every betting, rummy, and casino app, and any linked wallet or loan apps. Where the app offers a “self-exclusion” or account-closure option, use it. Ask the operator to permanently close your account, not just log out.
Block sites and reinstalls
- Use Android’s Digital Wellbeing or a reputable blocking app to block gambling apps and websites.
- Turn on Play Protect and keep “install unknown apps” off to stop side-loaded APKs.
- Ask a trusted person to set a screen-time or app-install password that you do not know, so reinstalling is not instant.
Cut the money off
Remove saved cards from betting apps, cancel UPI AutoPay mandates, and set a low daily transaction limit with your bank. Some banks let you block gambling-category transactions on your card — ask yours. The more friction between you and a deposit, the better.
Replace the habit
Blocking works best alongside support. Line up something to do in the moments you would usually play — a walk, a call to a friend, a game that costs nothing. And if you slip, do not treat it as failure; reset the blocks and keep going. Recovery is rarely a straight line.
Get help or report a scam
If you’ve lost money to a scam app, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. If gambling is affecting your life or someone you love, you can reach the free, confidential mental-health helpline Tele MANAS at 14416. Asking for help early is a strength, not a weakness.
